Comment of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Alexander Lukashevich as regards the terrorist act in Beirut
On July 9, on the eve of the month of Ramadan sacred for Muslims, a car parked in a car park in South suburbs of Beirut mostly populated by Muslims-Shiites exploded. 53 casualties were reported, 12 of them were hospitalised with injuries of different severity. We express solidarity with the government of Lebanon and friendly Lebanese people, which faced this new bloody challenge of terrorists. We wish the injured to recover as soon as possible.
The UN Security Council with active participation of Russia decisively denounced this terrorist attack and appealed to all the Lebanese to stay united in front of the attempts to disrupt stability in the country. The crime must be thoroughly investigated, and its organisers and committers must go on trial.
On our side, we confirm again our support to sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Lebanon, civil peace and consent in this country based on a constructive dialogue of political forces and mutual respect of all ethnic and religious groups of the population.
