About the contribution of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Children’s Fund
On 29 June 2013, the Government of the Russian Federation made the decision to make a one-time target contribution in the amount of 1 million US dollars to the budget of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the implementation of the project “Improving access to water supplies, sanitation and hygiene though institutional strengthening of this sector in the Kyrgyz Republic”.
This project is a part of the programme in the area of improving access to water supplies, sanitation and hygiene in pre-school and school education establishments of Kyrgyzstan, implemented by UNICEF with support of donor countries, including the Russian Federation. In 2010, Russia already granted 1 million US dollars to similar purposes.
Beside restoration of construction of water supply and sanitation sites, preparation of methodologies for teachers on issues of hygiene and sanitation, campaign on prevention of parasite diseases and strengthening of personnel and technical potential of units of the national service of sanitary and epidemiological control, as well as supplement of the emergency materials reserve by means of personal sanitation and hygiene is also envisaged within the framework of the new project.
It is planned to implement the project in rural regions of Osh Province, Jalal-Abad Province and Batken Province, where the deficit of water supply and sanitation sites is especially acute.
Acting in the spirit of friendship and strategic partnership, the Russian Federation will aspire to further assist the development of Kyrgyzstan, including using UNICEF.
